Customers who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 will receive a reduction of up to 10% on their base rates, according to a press release issued by the Interglobe Aviation-owned IndiGo airline on June 23.

At a time when the Ministry of Civil Aviation has imposed a rate cap on seat pricing, the country’s largest domestic airline, in terms of market share, becomes the first in the country to give a discount to passengers who get vaccinated on its flights.

IndiGo stated that it anticipates its move to encourage more individuals in India to go and obtain the COVID-19 vaccine will be successful in this regard.

“Being the largest airline in the country, we feel it is our responsibility to contribute to the national vaccination drive, by encouraging more people towards this common goal. This offer will not only strengthen their resolve towards vaccination but also ensure that they can travel safely at affordable fares with IndiGo,” the airline said in a press release.

IndiGo stated that the offer is only available to vaccinated travellers aged 18 years and older who are currently located in India at the time of booking and who have already got a Covid-19 vaccine in the country before booking their flight.

It was announced on June 1st that the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation had increased the cap on domestic seat pricing in order to prevent airlines from charging predatory prices in the domestic market. In addition, the government has reduced the cap on domestic seating capacity from 75 percent to 50 percent.

Customers who have been vaccinated are eligible for a discount, which is something that airlines around the world have embraced. In many European nations, airlines are also collaborating with health authorities to provide customers with the opportunity to get vaccinated upon arrival, in order to raise awareness of the vaccine and promote its use. Additionally, numerous eateries in India are offering discounts to clients who have been vaccinated against diseases.

The vaccination of a large proportion of India’s population is critical in the country’s fight against the pandemic and in the country’s efforts to return to pre-COVID conditions. Government experts have stated that rapid vaccination is the key to opening the economy, and the government’s goal is to vaccinate one crore people per day, according to the experts.
