The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several states in northern, central, and eastern India, including Delhi, on the day the results of the Lok Sabha elections are announced. While people wait for the outcome of the elections, they’ll also need to be prepared for hot and scorching weather.

Heatwave Expected in These Areas

The warning covers parts of:

  • Punjab
  • Haryana
  • Delhi
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Rajasthan
  • Jharkhand
  • Odisha

The IMD predicts temperatures to rise over the next few days, with some areas experiencing heatwave conditions.

Dates to Watch Out For

The heatwave is expected to be most intense between June 3rd and June 7th, with some variations depending on the location. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab: Heatwave likely on June 3rd and 4th, with a possibility on June 5th.
  • Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan: Heatwave conditions expected from June 3rd to June 7th.
  • Odisha: The heatwave might last until June 4th or 5th.
  • Jharkhand: Heatwave is likely from June 4th to June 7th.
  • Bihar: Hot and scorching weather is expected on June 6th and 7th.

Monsoon Brings Relief to Some Areas

While the north and some central parts of India face scorching heat, the good news is that the southwest monsoon has arrived in several southern and eastern states. This brings much-needed relief from the summer heat and provides water for crops.

Heavy Rains Expected in Northeast

However, the monsoon also brings the possibility of heavy rains. The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states. These states can expect heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 3rd to June 10th.

Stay Safe in the Heat

If you’re living in an area with a heatwave warning, here are some tips to stay safe:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Stay indoors during the peak heat hours, usually from 11 am to 4 pm.
  • Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothing.
  • Take a cool shower or bath to help bring down your body temperature.
  • Avoid strenuous activity.
  • If you experience dizziness, headache, or cramps, seek medical attention immediately.

Stay Updated on Weather Conditions

Keep an eye on the weather forecast from the IMD for the latest updates on the heatwave and monsoon rains. You can visit their website or use their mobile app.

By following these precautions and staying informed about the weather, you can stay safe and healthy during this time.
